sometimes I have to draw things I have no interest in which makes it extremely hard to feel motivated
from my understanding, the regular cintiq acts as an additional screen, so you can draw on it but you need an actual computer with drawing programs installed to be able to use it. its is essentially just like a drawing tablet but you draw directly onto the screen.
like this one at my uni
the cintiq companion though is a computer on it’s own, you don’t need to attach it to another computer and you download drawing programs directly onto it, and everything else you’d do on a computer like waste 5 hours on tumblr
hope that clears it up a bit!
man illustration is such a broad topic it’s hard to condense it, i’ve had to write whole essays about it for class haha
for me illustration seems to take on a more commercial role than something like fine art in that it’s intended to be reproduced. for example comics, illustrated storybooks, illustrations on the covers of albums and books and posters etc etc. i like the idea of art being shared, seeing cool art on the media i consume every day is really appealing to me
i think the only ability you’d need to start studying is to be passionate about drawing and be willing to learn about not just the craft but also how to run yourself in a business sense
that said i’m still just a student and have never taken on any professional work as of yet so i’m only going off the things i’ve heard and learnt about in school so my opinion isn’t as well informed as it could be :v
hi again! you’re very welcome! im glad i could encourage you ~ w~
nah it’s okay i don’t find it rude, actually i’ve been really fortunate lately to have been given a lot of money. my grandad gave me $1000 after he sold his yacht and i got a big money grant from centrelink to assist in uni and living expenses. since i’m studying illustration i figured its justified to use that money on a tablet which i’ll use in a (hopefully) future career in illustration ;;; i plan to make some of the money back when i next get a break from uni though
pretty sure these are barely different from the default settings though lmao
also i was using the default pencil at one point too i think
there are some things sai does better than photoshop but there’s also a lot photoshop does better than sai
so I’ll probably switch between both programs depending on what I need in a drawing
hi!! I got mine directly from the wacom online store, it was like $3000AUD
don’t feel like you’re not good enough for a cintiq! think more in terms of how a cintiq will benefit you. for me personally it was entirely for personal reasons rather than how I felt about my technical skill. because I hate being confined to sitting in room whenever I want to draw digitally (it brings down my mood and also hurts my back if I’m not conscious of my posture) having a portable digital art device eliminates both of those issues, and as a result I think it’ll make me a lot more productive
you don’t need to have any kind of set amount of skill for any kind of drawing tool, and if you feel like it’ll benefit you as much as i feel it will benefit me then it will probably even help improve your skills. but yeah they are expensive so it’s up to you to weigh those pros and cons!
